Coordinates
Coordinates are used when working with maps. They tell you how far across the map then how far up the map you need to go.
With coordinates the first number is ALWAYS going left or right. The second number is always telling you to go up or down. (Don’t panic about negatives just for now!)
If your coordinate is 2, 3 you would go across 2 then up 3. The answers are drawn on the lines and not in the spaces. Check out this diagram to help explain where to put your coordinate.

As you can see in the diagram you go across (known as the x axis) then up (known as the y axis)
Next we get negative coordinate.
They work in the exact same way. Across THEN up.
Q. How do I know if I go left or right, up or down.
A. If your first number is negative you go left, if the second number is negative you go down.
Check out these two diagrams that should help you see what I am talking about.
(Quadrand just means which of the four areas you are plotting the coordinate)
